So after a long break from writting in my blog here I am again! Sorry for the super long wait! It's been crazy busy here on the mountain. But to sum up my last course:
Observational Techniques
Opponent: 3 assignments. 1 set of short answer questions; data reduction of WiFeS observations; Calculate the curvature of the CCD on the WiFeS instrument using a programming script.
Feats: Nil
Abilities: Programming (Python +1)
Knowledge: Programming (Python +1), Data Reduction (WiFeS +2), Physics (Transfer Gratings +2)
Notes: I have added the second assignment to the Physics Explained page for anyone who is interested in what we have to know, and do, before we can properly reduce an observation for science! I used a program called IRAF which is widely used here for reducing observations from the WiFeS spectrograph.
If you'd like to know more about the spectrograph have a look at this site here! or here if you are an observer!
