That's right! I am observing at the AAT again this year! Starting last night we set up and got to putting on an exposure for a half hour before sitting back again and looking for something else to do... Observing isn't like it used to be. There are no students stuck taking instantaneous measurements in the freezing cold. Now we sit in front of walls of screens and press buttons at a safe distance from the telescope itself. Which is a good thing, as it is very cold outside, and the telescope is pretty big!
I am observing for the SAMI survey again today which is always fun. It is much more involved than other surveys I have been involved with. Why? Because we have to physically go into the top end of the telescope and plug optical fibres into a plate with the right structure to observe 13 galaxies at once! It keeps us more alive! ;-)
Tonight has be an especially clear night which has been awesome. We've observed 26 galaxies and look forward to another good night tomorrow! *Fingers crossed*

And of course there was an awesome sunset before we had to rush back into the control room and start twilight flats!
